I received an email from Reavey Burke from Washington, DC.  She had seen me on Fox News a few nights ago.  After 15 months of surgeries, radiation, and experimental treatments, Reavey lost her father in 2004 to a stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme.  About two months ago, Reavey learned of an organization called Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.  She was so interested in what they do that she applied for a job there and is now the Development and Operations Associate. CBS 19 News at 6 – 9/6/10

As I think I mentioned last week, The Charlottesville Newsplex and CBS 19 have been great supporters of 29 Days Until 29 since I first told them about the idea a little over a week ago.  Last Monday they interviewed me and aired a segment about my journey.  After that interview we discussed the possibilities of me reporting from the road over the course of the next month.  The video below is part 1 in a series that will run nightly (Monday – Friday) on the CBS 19 News at 5.  I will be using Skype to ‘video in’, as well as uploading other files (pictures, other video, etc…).  It’s a work in progress and I’m sure that I will be able to look back at the end of the start and see a big improvement from the start!

A HUGE thank you goes out to the entire Newsplex team, especially the engineering team, for helping me figure out how to make everything work!

Fox 5 News at 10 – 9/5/10

Yesterday (Sunday) I met with Stephanie from Fox 5.  The below story ran during the Fox 5 News at 10 last night and the video was posted on their website today!

It was an in-depth interview and I really enjoyed it, however the whole staring into the sun part was interesting.  As a result, I’m squinting the entire time and it looks a little goofy, but I think that it turned out really well!  As a result of this story I received 2 emails from people I’d never met before who shared their cancer connection with me.  I’ll be sharing 1 of those stories later this week!

Less Than 36 Hours Until Go Time!

If yesterday is any indication of what the next 30 days hold in store for me, our team, and 29 Days Until 29, I can’t wait to get started!  Yes, UVA won, yes, the team looked pretty good (all things considered), but more importantly, I was amazed at how well received 29 Days Until 29 was by all sorts of random people!

I wouldn’t have decided to do this if I didn’t think I would be able to get people to talk to me and to share their cancer connection with me, but I never imagined just how into it people would be! Continue reading →

It’s All Coming Together!

As I sit here at my desk and write this entry I’m finally able to take a deep breath.  I know it’s only a momentary pause, but it’s one that I’m thankful for after such an exciting and busy week.

OK, pause over!  It’s UVA FOOTBALL SEASON!  While I’m sure Greg Slater (you should click on his name, he’s got a great blog that you should read) will laugh out loud when he reads that sentence, I am really excited for the 1st game of the Mike London area tomorrow night at Scott Stadium.  While I am a huge college football fan that is not what excites me the most.   Continue reading →
