I was a very lucky kid and growing up I got to travel a lot with my parents. While the majority of places that I’m visiting during these 29 days are places that I’ve never been before, I did get to see a lot of the country while growing up. Until now, however, I’ve never been gone for 21+ days and stayed in a different place just about every night. Here are 10 of the things that I’ve come to miss over the past 21 days:
* My own bed – I’ve had a tempur pedic mattress for 6 years and it’s the greatest thing known to sleep. Why someone would by a $3000 and then the cheapest mattress they can find is beyond me. I miss my bed.
* A shower that I fit in – I should be taking pictures of all of the different showers that I’ve used – some of them have been great, but some didn’t even rise above my chin!
* Normal toilet paper – I know this sounds crazy, but it’s true and a luxury I don’t know if I can give up.
* Quiet – there have been moments of silence on this trip and I’ve been thankful for those, but I’m talking about not hearing the noise of an airport for a while!
* Cotton – it’s not good to wear a bunch of cotton when you’re traveling as much and as lite as I am. With the exception of a pair of jeans everything that I have is ‘cotton free’ and I’m looking forward to a pair of cotton socks, khaki pants, and a polo.
* The Firehouse – I’ve missed being on duty, running calls, and the sound of the Federal
* Football – Yes, I’ve been to a few football games, but my Fantasy Team is in shambles and I haven’t watched much college football at all — on the weekend of October 9th & 10th I will be doing nothing but watching football — let me know if you’d like to join me.
* Eastern Standard Time – for more than 48 hours at a time – we really do have it better on the east coast, esp. when it comes to football season – games starting at 10am just doesn’t work for me.
* The smell of Charlottesville – I’m not sure how to describe it, I’m just looking forward to smelling it again — Portland, OR smelled really good, but some places have also smelled horrible. I like, and miss, the smell of Charlottesville.
* Sonicare toothbrush – Yes, I did really just say that. I didn’t travel with it because it’s big, bulky, heavier than it should be, and needs to be recharged, but man I can’t wait to brush my teeth with it when I get home!
There are more, but that should be enough to keep you laughing at me for a few minutes!
